After attending the university, Tom joined the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Corporal and was a jumpmaster as an enlisted paratrooper in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Once he completed his service in the Military, Tom returned to St. Louis and became the President and owner of ABC Moving and Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent (since 1972), and also served as a Director on the Atlas World Group Board from 1988-2010.
An avid golfer, Tom was a match play champion for the Gateway (Missouri) Section of the GPA in 1987, and won numerous tournaments as a member of the Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Missouri.
