Elmendorf, Henry J., of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the age of 90. Loving husband of Ethel C. Elmendorf (NEE: Wiechens); beloved son of the late Ralph J. and Frances M. Elmendorf; devoted father of Donna (Don) Roettger and Nancy (Jerry, Sr.) Calvert; treasured grandfather of Jerry Calvert, Jr., Kurt Calvert, and the late Charlie Calvert; dear brother of Ralph J. (Betty) Elmendorf, Sister Mary Elmendorf F.S.M., Sister Jacinta Elmendorf F.S.M. He is preceded in death by his sister Thelka Elmendorf, brother Joseph Elmendorf, brother Thomas Elmendorf, sister Dorothy Redell, sister Jane Honerkamp, and sister Claire Jean Hackmann. He was employed at Jim Meagher Chevrolet Co. as a Secretary /Treasurer for 45 years. Henry was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He was named by Pope Paul VI as a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem in 1964 and named by Pope John II as a Knight of Malta in 1981. Henry was an honorary life member of the Development Council of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He founded the St. Charles Catholic Business & Professional Association in St. Charles in November 1990. Henry received "Hand of Christ" award in 2000 from the St. Charles Catholic Community Services. He was named "Man of the Year" in 1981 by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce for bringing the GM Plant to Wentzville, Mo. He was named "Man of the Year" in St. Charles twice (the only man in St. Charles to receive this honor twice). He received the Lindenwood University Sibley Medallion Award of Honor in 1985 and 1986. He was Emeritus Director of the St. Charles County Economic Development Council. Henry was the Chairman of Duchesne High School "Foundations for the Future" campaign appeal. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Lindenwood University. In addition he served six months as the acting President of Lindenwood University. Henry was selected by the Missouri Catholic Conference as the winner of the year 2005 Missouri Catholic Conference Recognition Award for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He was a past director of Industrial Development Authority of St. Charles County, St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Assn., 65 year member of St. Charles Kiwanis Club (Club President in 1963), March of Dimes, SSM Rehabilitation Institute, St. Charles County Economic Development Council, Lay Advisory Board of Duchesne High School and Lindenwood University since 1981. Henry is a board member of St. Joseph Health Center. He was a past Chairman of Development Council of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri's First State Capitol Restoration Commission, St. Charles Tourist Information Center, County Bank of St. Charles, Mercantile Bank of St. Charles, Interstate Bank of St. Peters, Duchesne Bank of St. Charles, Lindell Bank of St. Charles, St. Charles County Health Care Authority, Missouri-St. Louis Metropolitan Airport Authority and Crossroads Economic Development Corp of St. Charles County.
