Fults, Floyd William, age 83, died at his home in Pharr, Texas, on September 25, 2011. Floyd was born June 6, 1928 to parents Norma Olga Birk and Floyd Zeno Fults, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
During his youth, Floyd attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest order of the Boy Scouts of America; a title held for life, an achievement of which he was tremendously proud to have received.
Floyd graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following his time in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, he spent his entire career with McDonnell Douglas, the world's leading aerospace industry, as an aeronautical engineer. He worked on several programs where he played a key role in the construction of two spacecrafts, the Mercury and the Gemini, as well as the Tomahawk Cruise Missile project later in his career.
Floyd married Carolyn Jane Brooks April 30, 1977. He is survived by his wife, as well as children Daniel (Katherine) Fults, Nancy (Brock) Tuffli, Mary Jane (Frank) Ferguson, Penny McGlasson, and Ellen (Kenneth) Roberts, as well as grandchildren Andrew W. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt Sarah E. Birk, previous wife Marjorie M. Wilson Fults, and his favorite pets, Geisha Marie and Leonardo.
Floyd enjoyed his retirement years immensely; he loved square dancing, round dancing, playing bridge, his dogs, and travel with his wife. He was a leader in the community of Texas Trails Resort where he and Carolyn lived, being a trusted friend and volunteer in the many activities there. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McAllen, Texas.
Memorials may be made to ASPCA.
A Memorial Service will be held at Texas Trails in Pharr, Texas at a later date.
